Turners have been chosen as the very first site to display artwork created by children at St Teresa’s RC Primary School in Morden as part of the 'Make Merton Merry' initiative.

Make Merton Merry is a one year arts project funded by Merton Council and aims to connect local artists with schools and businesses to showcase artwork as part of the councils aims to celebrate and encourage Civic Pride in ones neighbourhoods.

A number of artists have been selected to work with schools in the area to create large scale temporary artworks, which are then to be exhibited around the London Borough of Merton.

Artist Katie Parsons was chosen to work with St Teresa's School and Turners was the ideal site for the fantastic large piece of work that Katie and the Children from year 2 came up with.

The abstract work is reminiscent of stained glass, but uses layers coloured tissue paper and PVA glue, interspersed with cut out spots. The materials allow the light to shine through highlighting the subtle shades against the solid circles.

The project is actually an extension, of an ongoing collaboration between another local artist Dickie Wilkinson, Turners and St Teresa's as they have been producing an annual Christmas window for many years and Dickie wanted to take that idea out into the wider community and so applied for funding from the council. After a successful application process he then went out to find other Artists, including Katie Parsons, and likeminded businesses who wanted to work with local schools but came back to Turners as his first port of call thanks to both our ongoing relationship and  fabulously large windows!

The display will remain in situ for the next 6-8 weeks after which it will be exhibited elsewhere in the borough.

In partnership with Katie Parsons, Make Merton Merry & Public funding from Merton Council, Civic Pride CIL funds.
